Global Water Intelligence (GWI), through the Global Water Awards, recognizes the most important achievements and innovative contributions of various companies globally in the international water industry within several categories.

Aquatech’s Chinacoal Tuke project demonstrates successful collaborative efforts towards ecological sustainability. The Tuke project has been shortlisted in the Industrial Water Project of the Year category, which is ‘the project that represents the most impressive technical or environmental achievement in the field of industrial water.’

This project is one of the few CTX Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plants in China that does not discharge wastewater out of the facility. Most importantly, this project is a prime example for many other industries in the region to support China’s commitment and efforts to produce more clean-energy.

Aquatech supplied the ZLD technology and system on a complete turnkey basis. ChinacoalTuke Fertilizer in the city of Ordos, Inner Mongolia region, is the end-user, and East China Engineering Science & Technology (ECEC), the EPC contractor.

The Tuke Project is a 200 m3/hr (880 GPM) concentrated wastewater recycle and ZLD project that treats wastewater streams - highly concentrated and saturated to scaling limits and with high fouling potential - from the upstream water and wastewater treatment plants. The expectation was to have 90% overall recovery of reusable water, and balance 20 m3/hr (88 GPM) of the reject stream to be taken to the solar pond, thereby achieving ZLD. The plant is commissioned and has been operational for six months. The parameters are as envisaged in the design, achieving complete ZLD.
